Code and video for new media

Ben Morrow

I grew up in London, England and Holywood, Northern Ireland. I studied at St. John's College, Cambridge and Manchester University, where I Graduated in Computer Science. In summer 2010 I moved to San Francisco to live with my fiancée Jennifer Boriss.

Thorughout highschool and college working with Wild Rover Productions Ltd, a Northern Irish Independent TV company developed my passion for interactive TV and video technologies in general. My show credits include Would You Pass the 11+?, Get Smarter in a Week and The Big Bumper Science Quiz. I have also been intimately involved with developing Secret Fortune, which airs on BBC One in February 2011.

In 2007 I co-founded ConstantComedy.com, an innovative 'gong-show' style comedy site which was nominated for a Media Guardian Innovation Award in 2008.

Creating compelling interactive experiences is my biggest passion. I have developed with Adobe (ie. Macromedia) Flash since version 4.0 to prototype and build advanced multimedia protoypes and production software. These days I like to use Adobe Air and Flex but also code in Java, python and know enough c to build gstreamer apps.

Right now I'm working with Mozilla on air.mozilla.org to help create new compelling open video content encoded in WebM and to help demonstrate the advantages of taking an open attitude towards video publishing and distribution.

I'm very passionate about usability and I Co-organize the bay area user experience professionals meetup: UX eye for the hacker guy
